Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of each individual case and can take anything from 6 to 18 months. After confirming your suitability for the Invisalign treatment and explaining in detail the steps involved, your dentist at Clifton Moor Dental Centre will provide you with a more accurate idea of how long your individual treatment will take.
For the Invisalign treatment to be effective it is recommended that you wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours per day, removing them to eat, brush and floss your teeth. Every two weeks, you will need to swap your aligners with a new set, which will gradually push your teeth into the desired positions.
While there is a small chance of a little discomfort as your teeth gradually move closer together, this is a positive sign that the Invisalign treatment is working. Most patients only report discomfort for the first few days after wearing a new set of aligners and some report no discomfort at all.
Invisalign appointment intervals are generally the same as with traditional braces. However, they can be much quicker, with less time spent in the dentist's chair during appointments, as no adjustments need to be made to wires/brackets. Patients typically visit us here in York every 4 to 6 weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as planned and to receive their next few sets of Invisalign aligners. Your dentist will decide, based on your individual treatment plan.
One of the things that makes Invisalign so popular is that the clear plastic aligners are very discreet. If they become stained, they will be more visible. Fortunately, you can prevent this from happening. Remember to remove your aligners before you eat and drink and avoid smoking, as the nicotine can lead to discolouration of your aligners. You should also take care of them properly by brushing them gently with your toothbrush, just as our team will show you.
